One day, I woke up and realized I wasn’t happy.
At the time, I was working in retail, and when I tell you I didn’t like going to work, I’m not kidding. I couldn’t move around. I wanted to be outside. I wanted to do more.
When I gave my notice, I had no idea what was next, but I knew for sure I was done with retail. An ad in the paper landed me an interview with a national pest control company, and before I knew it, I was in a truck driving around helping people.
It felt right in the beginning. For eight years, I worked for that company, and I learned the business from the inside out. I also fell in love with the office manager. Soon, we got married and started a family, but something was missing.
We were both grateful for our jobs, but we were both uncomfortable with how they did business. They tortured customers with high-pressure sales tactics that made us both cringe.
When it came to quality, there was none. My wife can tell you better than me on that one because she got stuck with so many calls from unhappy customers.
We knew we couldn’t fix that company, so we decided to start our own. For years, we saved our pennies and took as much overtime as we could get until we were ready.
Three years ago, we started Rat King, and we’ve been growing ever since then. Our strategy is simple: we made a list of all the bad things that big companies did and made a promise to ourselves that we’d never do those things to our customers.
We use the best products, talk to you in plain English, and work for a fair price. Plus, no salespeople. That’s working for us, and we’re expanding just like our family is.

Rat King is owned and operated by Roger and Keri Vasquez, a husband-and-wife team. Roger was born and raised in San Antonio and grew up on base. Roger handles all the fieldwork and service calls, while Keri manages scheduling, customer service, and the office side of the business.
Roger has over 8 years of hands-on experience in the pest control industry. He worked for larger companies before starting Rat King in 2023, so he knows the business inside and out. That experience means he’s seen just about every pest problem San Antonio can throw at you.
Roger is TDA licensed through the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Structural Pest Control Service. This license requires passing state exams, background checks, and annual continuing education to stay current on treatment methods and safety protocols.
After years of working for bigger pest control companies, Roger saw how customers were treated like just another number. He wanted to build a business where people got personal service, honest pricing, and no contract hassles. Keri handles customer service because she genuinely cares about making sure people feel heard.
Roger handles all service calls personally. When you book with Rat King, you’re getting Roger, not a different technician each visit. This keeps quality consistent and means you’re working with someone who has 8+ years of experience, not someone fresh out of training.
Since starting in 2023, we’ve built up over 70 five-star Google reviews from satisfied customers across San Antonio and surrounding areas. We’re a small operation, which means we can give each customer the attention they deserve instead of rushing from job to job.
